# Google Ads management for NZ small businesses You set the budget. We set up the ads, track what comes in, and keep a close eye on your budget. **Short answer:** Google Ads puts your business at the top of Google for searches you choose, and you pay per click. In Auckland, a click on "plumber auckland" costs about $12.52 and "electrician auckland" about $8.10 (ex GST, Oct 2026). Your ad spend is paid to Google. Our setup and management is quoted after a quick look. No lock-in. ## When Google Ads make sense, and when they don't Ads are a tap you can turn on and off. That's their strength. But they aren't right for everyone. **Good time for ads** - You're new and nobody is searching your name yet - Your work is seasonal and you need to fill the quiet months - Each job is worth a lot more than a few clicks - You need enquiries now, while SEO builds underneath **Hold off for now** - Your budget would only buy a handful of clicks a week - There's no way to tell which calls came from the ads - The page the ad sends people to is slow or unclear - You're already booked out for months ### What a click costs in Auckland Click prices vary hugely by trade. Here are real numbers for common Auckland searches. | Search | Searches a month | Cost per click (ex GST) | | --- | --- | --- | | plumber auckland | 2,900 | ~$12.52 | | electrician auckland | 1,000 | ~$8.10 | | builder auckland | 1,000 | ~$6.90 | | roofer auckland | 880 | ~$24.99 | | landscaper auckland | 320 | ~$10.59 | | accountant auckland | 590 | ~$16.86 | | cafe auckland | 5,400 | ~$0.25 | _Source: Google Ads keyword data, NZ, Oct 2026. NZD ex GST, approximate top-of-page prices. Prices change with competition and season._ ## What setup includes Most wasted ad money comes from a rushed setup. This is the groundwork. - Conversion tracking for calls and form enquiries, so you can see what each dollar did - Keyword research for the searches your customers actually use - Negative keywords, so you don't pay for "free", "jobs" or "DIY" searches - Ads written in plain words, with your areas and what makes you different - Location targeting, so you only pay for clicks from areas you serve - A check of the page each ad sends people to - The account set up in your name, with your own billing ## What ongoing management looks like Ads drift if nobody watches them. Here's what stays on our list. - **Search-term clean-up**: We read the searches that triggered your ads and block the ones that waste money. - **Bids and budget**: Spend shifts toward the searches and times that bring enquiries, and away from the ones that don't. - **A plain-English note**: One short note: what you spent, and what calls and forms it brought in. No 20-page report. ## What we need from you, and what you get each month Your part is short. Ours is ongoing. **What we need from you** - Your monthly ad budget - Your trade or service - The areas you work in **What you get each month** - Calls and form enquiries tracked - A short plain-English note on what was spent and what came in - A budget check, so spend matches what's working ### What NZ businesses typically pay for ads management Management fees are separate from your ad spend. Here's what we've seen on the market. | Fee | Typical NZ range | | --- | --- | | Setup | $799 to $950 | | Monthly management | $497 to $750 a month, or 20% of ad spend | | Ad spend | Paid to Google, on top | _Source: published NZ Google Ads management prices, Oct 2026. Market figures, not our prices. NZD, ex GST._ ## Our fees We quote after a quick look at your business. No lock-in. The work for a one-suburb sparky is very different from a roofer covering all of Auckland. You'll get the setup and management cost before anything starts. Ad spend goes to Google, separately, so you always see exactly what Google charged. ## Ads and SEO work better together Ads bring calls now. [SEO](https://websmarthq.com/seo/) and [local SEO](https://websmarthq.com/local-seo/) bring calls later, without paying per click. Most small businesses do best with both: ads to keep the phone going while the slower work builds. Both depend on the page people land on. If it's slow, vague or hard to use on a phone, you pay for clicks that go nowhere. That's why we check it before any ad goes live. > "Awesome service and knowledge, totally recommended. The fee depends on how many services and areas you want to cover. For market context (ex GST), NZ management fees run $497 to $750 a month, or 20% of ad spend. Setup is typically $799 to $950 (Oct 2026). Your ad spend is separate and paid to Google. ### Is there a lock-in, setup fee or percentage-of-spend charge? There's no lock-in contract. You can stop any time. Any setup or management fee is quoted before we start, so you know exactly how it's worked out. Your ad spend is paid straight to Google, not through us, so you can see every dollar Google charged. Nothing is added to your bill without a yes. ### Who owns the Google Ads account and the data? You do. The account is set up in your name, with your own billing. We get access to manage it. If you stop working with us, you keep the account, the history and the tracking, and any logins are handed over. That's the same rule we follow for your domain, content, Google profile and analytics. ### Should I start with Google Ads or SEO? It depends on how soon you need work. If you need calls this month, start with ads. If you can wait a few months and want to stop paying per click, start with SEO and your Google Business Profile. Many owners do both: ads now, SEO underneath. Our [SEO](https://websmarthq.com/seo/) page explains the slower side. ### How quickly will Google Ads bring in calls? Ads can start showing soon after Google approves them, so the first clicks often come quickly. Turning clicks into steady enquiries takes longer. The account needs time and data to learn which searches work. Tracking needs to be in place from day one, and the landing page needs to be clear. We'll tell you what's realistic for your trade before you spend. ### Do I need a new website or landing page to run ads? Not always. If your current page loads fast on a phone, says clearly what you do and where, and makes contacting you easy, it can work. If it doesn't, ads just buy expensive bounces. A one-page Business Lite site at $499 + GST often makes a good landing page. We'll look at what you have first. ### Do Google Ads work for tradies? They can, if the setup is tight. Trade clicks in Auckland run from about $6.90 for "builder auckland" to $24.99 for "roofer auckland" (ex GST, Oct 2026). Show ads only in the areas you serve, block job-seeker and DIY searches, and track calls. Our [Google Ads cost guide](https://websmarthq.com/guides/google-ads-cost-nz/) has more on budgets.
